FAQs
How does ActiveLicense activate license keys?
When your customer begins the process of activating their copy of your software, ActiveLicense generates a "fingerprint" based on their computer hardware, such as motherboard, processor, harddrive and other components that are not replaced often. Other licensing products activate license keys based on computer name and/or hardware. The problem with activating license keys based on computer name is the high possibility of the name changing, especially in corporations where naming conventions change, computers are reimaged, and common hardware is replaced. It is technically possible for ActiveLicense activations to be backed up and reused if a machine needs to be rebuilt as long as the key hardware remains the same.
Can more than one person access ActiveLicense at the same time?
Yes, of course. A key feature of ActiveLicense is the ability to have multiple users access resources. We've made it simple and secure to manage users and what areas they can access. We created roles for sales agents, support agents, developers and administrators. Each role has predefined access rights to areas that the user would need access to. ActiveLicense is also 100% web-based and can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection. This means your sales agents can generate sales and customers quickly and easily.
How can my customers interact with my developers?
Here at ActiveMotionLabs we know how important it is for customer interactions to continue after a sale. ActiveLicense's web services allow your application to send feedback and bugs that developers can filter and generate reports on.
Is there a limit to how many times a key can be activated?
You can set how many times a license key can be activated, as well as resetting the limit for a specific key.
Can I ban license keys from being activated?
Yes! Absolutely, as you discover compromised keys, you can block future activations for those keys.
Can I integrate ActiveLicense into my website?
Defiantly! We've created a number of APIs which allow you to access ActiveLicense data like sales, license keys, and customers. This means you can create a "My Account" area on your site that can display a customer's purchases and license keys.
We've also included PayPal integration which automatically generates ActiveLicense data like sales, customers and license keys and can send an email to the customer using your email template.
How does the online help work?
ActiveLicense's online help feature is based on Microsoft Office's online help system, which allows users to navigate categories and sub-categories and view rich text tutorials (Including pictures, flash, etc) about how to complete a task.
What if my customer doesn't have internet access to activate their software?
ActiveLicense features a manual activation method which allows the customer to contact you either by phone or other means. When they contact you or your support staff, your application displays their license key and a unique fingerprint. They read/tell you this information and ActiveLicense generates an activation code. As your support staff read it back, the customer enters it into a field, which completes the activation. This is similar to how large software firms handle phone-based activations.
